Having vs Being Autistic

Remove the autism, remove me.

Knowing that I am autistic is a revelation for me.

I am used to having “mental illnesses” like anxiety and depression, things that could, hypothetically, be cured. I could take medications, do therapy, exercise, whatever, and I should be able to get better.

Not the case with autism.
